Although I know it’s best just to wait until tomorrow morning when all the polls have closed and the votes have been counted (we hope…), it’s hard not to keep your eyes glued to the car wreck that is election night news coverage. But if you want to break away from the mainstream, at least Paper Tiger TV is here to help with coverage that focuses on big issues besides just who’s ahead.

Whose votes are being counted? What are the implications of the unprecedented sums of money spent in this election? And what issues are being left out altogether of the mainstream election debate?
Featuring an interview with longtime voting rights activist Frances Fox Piven on election 08’s significance in the context of historic struggles for popular enfranchisement, as well as short interviews with activists from Iraq Veterans Against the War and from the movement for single payer healthcare.

Free Speech Radio News, and the author of Targeted: National Security and the
Business of Immigration.
Arun Gupta, editor and writer for The Indypendent, is a frequent guest on
Democracy Now! and is the author of a forthcoming book about the
history of the Iraq War. He was previously an editor at the National Guardian from 1988-1992.
Isabel Macdonald is a member of the Paper Tiger collective. She works as the
Communications Director of the media watch group Fairness & Accuracy In
Reporting, and writes media criticism for FAIR’s magazine Extra!
Steven Wishnia covers housing and drug-policy issues for the Indypendent and
edits Tenant, the newspaper of the Metropolitan Council on Housing, New York
City’s leading tenants-rights organization. He is a former news editor at High
Times, and his work has also appeared in the Village Voice, The Nation, The
Progressive, In These Times, City Limits, Punk Planet, and the late Guardian
newsweekly, where he was an editor.
