Radioshow Archives Back In Order

I’ve finally got the mediageek radioshow page updated to be completely current. The 2002 shows have been moved onto their own archive page.

Programs are available in two flavors of mp3 (16kbps for low-bandwitdh connections like modems, and 64 kbps for braodcast-quality over higher-bandwidth) and Ogg Vorbis, the high-quality open-source audio format. The Ogg files have equivalent sound quality to the 64kbps mp3 files, but with about 30% smaller files. You can play the Ogg files using Winamp 3 on Windoze PCs. Click here to find players for other computers and operating systems.

Catching Up On the Radio Show

OK, so there have been no publicly posted mediageek radio show updates since the new year. This is due both to recording problems at the radio station, digitizing problems at home and my desire to reorganize the radio show page to make it a little easier to navigate — so as not to have 2 years of shows all listed vertically down the page.

Unforunately, the end result is no updates for you, the on-line listener.

In the meantime, here are the two most recently and successfully recorded programs for your listening pleasure:

Jan. 11: Radio Free Urbana, interview with Mike Lehman who filed an application for a low-power FM station in Urbana, IL on the possibility that the license might come through in a recent revised re-application.

Jan. 24: Ownership Rules Review, reply comments period. Discussion of FCC Chairman Powell’s comments to the Columbia Law School’s forum on media ownership, and a review of what local media owners want.

thanksgiving mediageek break

In case it hasn’t been obvious, I’m away from the mediageek desk on an extended Thanksgiving Vacation through Portland, OR and New Jersey. I’ve been staying away from the usual media news haunts, and will have to catch up when I get back. My one media related venture was to the Independent Publishing Resource Center […]

Next 2 mediageek radio shows / Nov. 15 show on-line

Friday’s program is now available for listening on-line. The feature is an interview with Don Schellhardt of the Amherst Alliance, along with the usual news headlines. The Amherst Alliance filed a motion with the FCC asking the commission to take a second harder look at IBOC digital radio.

I will not be producing the next two mediageek radio shows — Nov. 22 & 19. In my place Jeff Nicholson-Owens, who did the interview with Brad Kuhn of the FSF last month, will be in the driver’s seat. He’ll be focusing on the Eldred v. Ashcroft case that Larry Lessig recently argued in front of the Supreme Court, along with bringing news headlines relating to civil liberties and cyberspace.
