Washington Post To Give Radio a Shot

Following right up on my post arguing that podcasting is revitalizing radio — today the Washington Post announces that it will be programming a DC-area station with Post-derived content:

Post publisher Jones said in his memo to staff that “this is an innovative way of presenting Washington Post journalism to Washington area radio listeners. The new station will present news, information and diverse views concerning national, international and Washington metro area news, including business, entertainment, sports, cultural and consumer news.”

My guess, and my hope, is that the Post plans to break the typical news radio mold of a constant headlines-weather-traffic-sports rotation, though we’ll see.

Interestingly, the station is owned by Bonneville International, a communications company owned by the Mormon Church of Ladder Day Saints.
