The SurvivaBall Solution for Global Warming, on Today’s Mediageek Radioshow

On Tuesday a forward-thinking engineer from Halliburton presented the company’s newest invention to help solve the problems associated with global warming, the SurvivaBall:
Halliburton SurvivaBall

“The SurvivaBall is designed to protect the corporate manager no matter what Mother Nature throws his or her way,” said Fred Wolf, a Halliburton representative who spoke today at the Catastrophic Loss conference held at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Amelia Island, Florida. “This technology is the only rational response to abrupt climate change,” he said to an attentive and appreciative audience.

Unfortunately for Halliburton, Mr. Wolf doesn’t actually work for them. It turns out he works for the Yes Men who targeted the company for one of their socially-conscious hoaxes, where they test global capitalism’s sense of humor, irony and humanity.

Unfortunately for the people of the world, the test came up negative again, as the assembled Catastrophic Loss conference participants raised not a single doubt or objection to the SurvivaBall concept.

I talked with the Yes Men’s Andy Bichlbaum this morning and he filled me in on the details of their technological innovation. That interview will air on the radioshow today at 5:30 PM CDT on community radio WEFT 90.1 FM in Champaign, IL. The program will be online available for podcast and download by midnight Sunday.

Interestingly, the only mainstream news converage the prank has received so far is from that hallmark of objective journalism, the Washington Times.
